AWIB’s “Starting Your Business 101: Open the Door to Your Success” workshop series starts November 5!

AWIB is holding its annual “Starting Your Business 101” workshop series starting on November 5th!  Current and aspiring entrepreneurs are welcome to attend our four-part workshop series, which will give them the tools they need to successfully run a business.  The first workshop will be on Writing a Business Plan and will be led by Alicia Yoon, co-founder of Peach and Lily (www.peachandlily.com), an e-commerce site offering the best in Asian beauty products. Alicia holds an MBA from Harvard Business School and has a background in finance and management consulting.

The workshop will cover:
- Why and when you need a business plan
- Elements of an effective plan
- Importance of strategic planning
- Using research and resources to make your case

Twenty-Something CEO’s

A panel discussion with enterprising young Asian women on how they followed their dreams and turned their business into a reality.

Speakers included Shauna Mei, CEO and Founder, AHALife; Gauri Manglik, Co-Founder, Fondu and SpotOn; Benita Singh, Co-Founder, Source4Style; and Cheryl Yeoh, Co-Founder, Reclip.It.  Mitra Kalita, award-winning journalist and author moderated the event.  

The stories of these young entrepreneurs creating their own opportunities for themselves inspired attendees.  The event was held at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, The Ruth and Harold D. Uris Center for Education.

2011 AWIB Highlights 

2011 marked AWIB’s 16th successful year of helping Asian women achieve their entrepreneurial goals and advance professionally in their chosen fields. From seminars on how to start a business, to corporate leadership development, AWIB members  and supporters enjoyed a variety of networking events and learning experiences geared towards helping them develop new skills, meet the right people and enhance their work as professionals and entrepreneurs. In 2012, we will continuously strive to encourage and develop Asian women leaders in business.

Marketing: For Today’s Small Business April 24

AWIB’s educational class Marketing: For Today’s Small Business was held on April 24 at Microsoft in NYC. Small business entrepreneurs on a limited budget learned about the most cost effective marketing strategies.  Strategy Director, Dhara Naik from Likeable Media, showed attendees how to use social media to bring in sales.  Real world examples combined with an interactive workshop allowed attendees to put their new knowledge into use. Particular attention was paid to navigating the changing array of marketing and social media tools to achieve results in niche businesses.
